226 AC Replacement Contractors in Austin, TX

Central Texas summers make AC Replacement in Austin a practical necessity rather than a luxury upgrade. Austin sees roughly 30 days each year where temperatures climb above 100 F, plus an additional 111 days exceeding 90 F, all while humidity lingers and makes the air feel heavier than the raw temperature suggests. The city's 265 HVAC contractors have accumulated an average rating of 4.4 stars across more than 41,000 customer reviews, indicating that Austin homeowners have no shortage of experienced professionals to choose from when an aging system finally gives out.

The cost of a new central air conditioning system in this market reflects both equipment size and efficiency specifications. A basic 3-ton central AC runs $5,500 to $11,000, while a mid-efficiency 4-ton unit ranges from $7,500 to $14,000. Homeowners seeking the highest performance from a 5-ton high-efficiency system should budget between $9,500 and $16,000. Texas law requires contractors to hold either a Class A or Class B license from the TDLR, which involves proving at least 48 months of practical experience within the past 72 months, ensuring that the technicians handling these installations meet established competency standards.

Customer feedback reveals patterns that help separate one contractor from another. Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning, & Electrical earns a 4.8-star rating with reviewers frequently praising their same-day emergency response and the ability to handle multiple trade projects in a single visit. At Precision Heating & Air, customers who leave five-star reviews consistently mention the technician by name, with Jose Castellan cited most often for explaining system options clearly and completing same-day unit replacements when needed.
